ScribbleJam was fun. It was my first year going. I bought some pimp shirts from Methods NYC, bought some CDs from the Doomtree artists and got to talk to Sims for a bit. We also got to talk to Glue and were able to get some CDs autographed by all the members as well as take a few pictures. The DJ battle, however, was a sham. Skratch Bastid was robbed. I mean, really, someone call the cops he was mugged. He got “beat” in the semi-final round by a DJ who fucked up a couple of spots in his set. The judges also “deliberated” for over 10 minutes, but refused to allow one more round which would have lasted 4 minutes on the grounds of “it would upset the schedule”. I think this was just scripted and a screwjob directed at Bastid. I emailed him my opinions and offered my support of his set and a couple of hours later I got this reply from him:

It was poorly organized and the video will reflect how shitty
the DJ battle actually was. i had a great time last year and
this year’s battle was just plain wrong. I won’t let it get me
down, i just wish I could’ve done my new stuff!

I’ll be back with a vengance 😉

My copy of Whatever and Ever Amen (Re-Issue) came in yesterday, and I must say I’m in love with the She Don’t Use Jelly lounge version. I also pre-ordered Songs for Silverman Deluxe Edition Bundle which also includes the limited edition Songs for Goldfish cd. Now, only if he’d come closer on tour.

Consumers have very quickly figured out that CDs are a peculiarly weak value propostion. Is it any surpise that CD sales have slid while DVDs have grown explosively? How is it that the widespread availability of films on Bit Torrent haven?t dented their sales? A simple possible explanation is pricing structure.

The Globe and Mail: Would you pay 5 cents for a song? I know I would. I have purchased over 250 tracks from iTunes Music Store and they on average are about 99 cents (granted the majority of purchases were album “deals”).

The concert was awesome. He played his cover of “Wonderwall” which made my night. He played a lot of his older stuff also, I only think maybe 1 song off Rock N Roll and one off Love is Hell. I was expecting “Shadowlands” and “This is It” during the encore, but they didn’t play those. Oh well, it was an awesome show regaurdless. Pics on the moblog.
